Monica Biondo, marine biologist
Born in Switzerland of Italian parents, I earned a master’s in zoology and tertiary education at the University of Berne.
My love for marine animals was awakened early in life during yearly trips to the sea in Sicily with my parents.
Although I lived by the sea only during an extended stay in Australia, I’ve always been involved with marine issues, working for such conservation NGOs as Greenpeace (marine ecology and species protection) and for over 15 years on the subject of CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora.
My fascination with coral reefs has led me to organize multiple coral reef courses in the Red Sea and the Maldives – www.korallenriffe.ch
Thank you very much for your help in protecting the sea!

In February 2013 I received the environmental award “Trophée de femmes” (3rd place) by the Fondation Yves Rocher. A big token of appreciation for my work.
